Downtown Walnut Creek Strikes a Chord with the Return of Painted Pianos
Dedication Celebration Scheduled for May 27 in Downtown Walnut Creek
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — May 12, 2026 — The Walnut Creek Downtown Association is proud to announce the return of Painted Pianos, a beloved community art activation that brings music, creativity, and moments of connection to the heart of downtown Walnut Creek.
Designed to bring people together through art and music, Painted Pianos places artist-painted pianos throughout the downtown district, inviting spontaneous performances, shared moments, and a more interactive, walkable downtown experience.
Outdoor art activations such as Painted Pianos help foster a vibrant, walkable downtown environment while supporting local creativity and placemaking efforts. The program also provides emerging and local artists with a highly visible platform to showcase their work.
The Painted Piano Project is administered by Walnut Creek Downtown Association and funded through generous donations and sponsorships from the downtown business community. Contributions help cover the cost of refurbishing, tuning, moving, storing, and painting the pianos so they can continue to be enjoyed by the community.
For 2026, Waters Moving & Storage returns as the program’s Presenting Sponsor. Community Sponsors include The Ballet School Performing Arts, Visit Walnut Creek, Kaiser Permanente, Walnut Creek Civic Pride Foundation and Broadway Plaza.
The community is invited to attend the official Painted Piano Dedication Day on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Water Light Public Plaza, located at 1501 Locust Street in downtown Walnut Creek. The event will celebrate the artists, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners who helped bring the 2026 project to life.
