Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom and Progress

Juneteenth Celebrations in Contra Costa County

Observed on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Now a federal holiday, Juneteenth honors African American freedom and resilience, while recognizing the ongoing journey toward equality.
For the business community, Juneteenth is an opportunity to reflect on values of inclusion, support Black-owned businesses, and foster a workplace culture that celebrates diversity and equity.
